Remote (digital) shoots were established in the creative freelance photography industry during the pandemic, and the good news is: they’re here to stay! yay. This kind of photography has been a lifeline for many creatives! It IS a fantastic way to shoot with a person interactively, from afar. And it works. The software is easy to use, you shoot in real time, and after each image is taken a preview appears next to your live view as you continue to shoot. A decent internet speed is vital for the smooth running of this. I can guarantee from my side, when you book a digital shoot with me, the internet speed and technical side of the shoot will be fully operational. You’ll also find you’ll likely have issues downloading a large batch of raw files from Dropbox if your internet connection is not up to scratch. For the majority of people who I’ve worked with though, there have been very few tech issues and the system works extraordinarily well!

For those who don't know what it's all about, here is an outline:

I, the model, connect my camera to my computer in standard tethering mode. This is simply a wire that transmits the images directly to the computer screen from the camera after every shot. Many pro photographers shoot with this method, it is a great way to collaborate with a creative team, making it easier for the creators to see the results on a bigger screen. Most people will shoot tethered but use their camera to take the shot, the great thing about the tethering software is that “the shot” can also be taken via the computer mouse. In walks Screen Sharing or Screen Mirroring: Once all of this is up and running, the photographer can mirror MY computer screen to theirs, and voila! the photographer has then full access to a camera in the same room as the model. The tethering software allows the camera settings to be fully controlled on a computer. Focus, ISO, shutter speed, Fstop, colour balance, and all in camera adjustments are possible to do on the laptop.

You will need to download screen sharing/mirroring software: Teamviewer or AnyDesk are the ones I use. Both are free to download and easy to use. This enables you to control my computer (and by extension the camera) remotely, from your own location.

The photographer and the model communicate via video link such as facetime on a separate device like a mobile phone or tablet.

I do require that your video is ON and you yourself are visible, at least for the initial 5-10 mins as I would like to see the person I am working with!

The photographer can direct the model via the video link, asking to position the lighting, camera, change lenses etc.

I will send you a download link to the Raw Files + Jpegs via dropbox within the hour of the shoot finishing.
